alife recently went through a minor renewal for its 6th year of business. I went to visit the place last Saturday to see what has changed, if anything. Inside, some of the columns and walls are now covered with a cartoony theme, the lounge above appears more spacious but the rest was frozen in time. [...]
Your dearest DGP came back from a business trip in the USA on Friday afternoon and promptly joined badass DJ MattB, of RaNDom crew for an interesting night at Milk.
A relatively calm Friday night, not bad considering the typhoon scaring people away. Few people, few girls, most good looking !
For Saturday night I headed with a couple of friends to alife in Nishi-Azabu.
A lot of masked people, a lot of hot girls dressed as maids and policewomen.. and anything went ;)
Pretty much the usual alife crowd, including the die-hard salaryman-boys with their suits. C’mon, black suits on Saturdays ?!
Alcohol servings were pretty generous at the rather empty bar at the back of the main dance floor, near the super-duper-VIP area. There is really no point in going to the other bar at by the dance floor: a lot more crowded and stringy bartenders.
Until next report, DGP out !
Last Saturday I (DPG) went to Xross with Mr.MilanoCookie.
Upon the entrance (¥3500 as usual, no more discounts given to us) we are told by the lady at the counter that DJ Ozawa is going to perform for the night and also next week. We are not sure about who is he and frankly, we couldn’t tell the difference. Same entertaining mixi-mixes so common in Japanese Disco clubs.
We got in at midnight and it was rather empty.
Things got better as time went by, but by 2 AM it was hardly packed (possibly a good thing) and men were an overwhelming majority (definitely not a good thing).
We felt a bit robbed. Quite possibly most people simply go to alife, and that thing can’t be reverted unless Xross management takes some steps to draw more girls to the party.
Hand out more discounts, blatantly let the girls in for free, but do something or else alife will end up being the only game in town when it comes to Japanese Disco clubs (geez, give us variety !!!)

This is a simple overview about nampa in Japanese disco clubs.. which currently pretty much means alife and Xross to some extent.
In most cases girls will come in couples. Japanese women tend to be especially attached and protective of each other. Many will hold hands and continuously keep track of their friend like their lives would depend on each other. Sometimes only one of the two is boyfriendless. In that case the friend will get extra protective (read: pain in the ass) as she’s not in business for herself.
The goal in these clubs is definitely not the music. Girls come fully aware that men will try to pick them up and actually expect that to happen.
If a girl with too many attentions acts like a bitch, a girl with no attentions does get upset when nobody comes around to offer her a drink. For this reason it’s actually good to sometimes go early, so that the few girls that are around are still in need for attentions. Though it’s true that later in the night alcohol effects will help them relax, it’s also true that many won’t drink as much and alcohol effects are multiple and not all positive anyway..
I just got back from a Roppongi tour for a special guest.
I completely avoided Roppongi crossing, with the African dudes pounding to get us some sleazy entertainment and went straight to the Heartland. There the girls were as usual… not quite girls anymore, but a good place to talk.
Next step was the Muse. Good old reliable Muse. But time went by and by 2 AM guys were outnumbering girls by far.
So, we decided to cut the chase and go to the hot place.. alife.. stunning stunning beautiful girls !!!
Dumb as I am, I didn’t make half of a move.. but there was at least one situation in which I should have and I’m going to regret that for a long time.
Friday night gives a 6 to Heartland, a 6 to Muse and an 8 to alife.
Heartland played nice but didn’t provide the goods aside from meeting some old friends.
Muse played fair and didn’t provide tangible good: one playful girl and her future husband and one uncertain girl with an engagement ring.. ehh ?!.
Alife didn’t provide any old friend but gave a great vision… and we are all fans of great graphics.. until we get to upgrade to physics simulation.
On a side note, last week’s Xross let us down. They refused our supposedly outdated discount entry and provided us with lackluster entertainment (where were the chicks ?).
bha !
Some of you asked for more action pictures about the club scene…. we’re thinking to go suck up on clubs and get us nice shots about the action.. but we’d like to get more feedback on that. So, mail us over at feedback@tokyoclubbers.com

Yesterday night we went for Nishi-Azabu’s alife.
Possibly, because it was a Tanabata night event, where Japanese couples are possibly out dating, the environment was a bit different.
The cafe+club entrance before 23 for ¥1000/2D was not available. In fact, the cafe only opened after 23.
Nonetheless we go in for ¥2000/2D, ¥1500 off for the early birds.
